Maria Permuy, Silvio Veras at Wedding of Magdiel and Olgita, April 6, 1974, Hialeah, FL. Maria and Silvio recently began dating.

Silvio was born in Dominican Republic. He died in Miami, Florida.

He moved to Miami, Florida in the early 1970s. At the time, his family warned him, jokingly, that “Miami is full of Cubans.”

Of course, Silvio fell in love with a young Cuban girl named Maria Lourdes Permuy. The love letters he wrote to her in the 1970s are here.

Silvio and Maria got married in 1976. They lived in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic for a short time. Then they lived in Hialeah, Florida until the summer of 1985. Then, they moved to the Hammocks in West Kendall, Miami, Florida.

In the family-oriented community of the Hammocks, Silvio was a little league soccer and baseball coach. He was also an active member of several churches throughout his lifetime.

Silvio and Maria had 3 children.

In the second half of 1994, Silvio Veras was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease (“ALS” or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). At the time, the doctors told him that he had about 3 years left to live.

Silvio died on December 2, 1997.
